Caring for Your Artwork
Caring for your art collection does not require extensive maintenance. With regular care and careful handling, you can ensure your artwork looks its best and lasts for many years.
Placement
The placement of a piece of art is important, as harsh environments can affect its condition and appearance over time.
Sunlight
Avoid placing artworks in direct sunlight, as this can cause colors to fade or other forms of deterioration. Intense sunlight can also accelerate paper aging and lead to surface damage. If you plan to display a paper-based artwork in a sunny location, consider framing it with UV-protective glass. Even harder paints, such as oil and acrylic, fade when exposed to sunlight. Whenever possible, try to hang your artwork on a shaded wall or in a location where it won’t be exposed to the sun for extended periods.
Moisture
High humidity, commonly found in bathrooms and kitchens, can cause artworks on paper to warp (even framed ones). If your artwork is in a humid area, make sure the room is well-ventilated. Otherwise, we recommend keeping it completely away from humid areas.
All artworks should be inspected periodically—especially the backs, where the first signs of moisture are most likely to appear.
Cleaning
Regular maintenance is the most effective way to keep your artworks looking spotless. Giving them a quick dusting once a month prevents dirt from accumulating on their surfaces. Follow our tips below for more targeted cleaning methods.
Framed and Glass-Covered Artworks
Use a glass or plastic cleaner (depending on your frame’s glass) with a microfiber cloth to gently wipe the surface. Avoid spraying any liquid directly onto the glass—apply a small amount to the cloth first. We do not recommend cleaning with water, as it may leave visible particles once dry.
Use a damp cloth to remove dust from the frame’s molding. If you wish, you can also apply clear furniture polish to the wooden molding to keep the finish in top condition.
Artworks on Open Surfaces
Artworks with open surfaces, such as canvases or sculptures, are best kept clean by gently dusting them regularly. Use a small, soft-bristled brush to reach any crevices (makeup brushes work well).
We recommend that you do not use any chemical cleaning products. If any visible damage occurs to your artwork, please notify us immediately.
Transportation
You may use your artworks only at the address you have specified. If, for any reason, a move becomes necessary with MoHA’s knowledge, be sure to pack them securely using plenty of protective padding. Place a piece of cardboard on both sides of a flat artwork, wrap it in bubble wrap, and transport it in a sturdy box. Do not place anything on top of the artwork.
If possible, avoid leaving prints or unstretched canvases rolled up for long periods of time. This can damage the artwork.
You may use your artworks only at the address you have specified. If, for any reason, a move is necessary with MoHA’s knowledge, be sure to pack them securely using plenty of protective padding. Repack the artwork using the original MoHA box and protective packaging materials provided upon delivery. The original packaging was specially prepared to fit the artwork’s dimensions and sensitivity and provides the most appropriate protection for safe transport. Use the protective corner pieces, divider boards, and packing materials in the same arrangement as when you received them, and ensure the artwork does not move inside the box.

Important: To prevent damage that may result from improper packaging, we recommend that the artwork be stored and transported in its original MoHA box, if possible. To allow us to verify that the packaging is correct, please send photos of the packaged artwork to info@museumofhouseart.com before handing it over to the shipping carrier.
After reviewing the photos, additional guidance may be provided if deemed necessary. As stated in your rental agreement, you are responsible for any damage that may occur during shipping due to incorrect, incomplete, or inadequate packaging. Therefore, sharing the photos before shipping is important both for the safety of the artwork and to prevent potential damage.
Please note: Submitting the photos does not imply that the packaging has been approved by MoHA or that MoHA assumes liability for any damage that may occur. The user is responsible for ensuring the artwork is safely packaged and transported.
